Who should attend:
Newly appointed first aiders who work with children within the workplace (nurseries, pre-school, schools, sport and leisure facilities, etc), and who requires a Paediatric First Aid certification to comply with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation and meets childcare registration requirements.
Persons within the roles of nannying, childminders, creches, etc who look after children and who requires a Paediatric First Aid certification to comply with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation and meets childcare registration requirements.
Course objective:
To provide delegates through a combination of theory illustrated with examples and interactive role play/practical sessions knowledge, skills, and confidence of first aid legalisation, the first aider role and responsibilities, knowing your equipment, how to identify first aid conditions with casualty(ies) treatment, when to call emergency services
or transfer casualty(ies) to medical centres, and how to report the first aid incident.

Understanding of the legislation behind first aid
Understanding what is first and the main roles of First Aider, including protection against infections
Incident management and mechanism of injury
Consent for treatment
Primary and Secondary surveys
Types of casualties and how to deal/treat with the infant / child casualty – includes: responsive;
unresponsive and breathing – Airway management, vomiting and recovery position; and unresponsive and non-breathing – CPR
Respiratory System and the conditions that affect this system and treatments
Circulatory System and the conditions that affect this system and treatments
Types of wounds and injuries
Medical conditions and treatments
• Diabetic emergency
• Epilepsy and seizures – including Absence, Tonic-Clonic and Febrile Convulsions
• Meningitis
• Poisoning

Delegates must attend both days for assessment purposes.
