Who should attend:
Newly appointed first aiders within the smaller or low risk workplace (for example office, shop, public houses, etc), and who requires an Emergency First Aid at Work certification to comply with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation.

What you'll learn

Course objective:
To provide delegates through a combination of theory illustrated with examples and interactive role play/practical sessions knowledge, skills and confidence of first aid legalisation, the first aider role and responsibilities, knowing your equipment, how to identify first aid conditions with casualty(ies) treatment, when to call emergency services
or transfer casualty(ies) to medical centres, and how to report the first aid incident.

The course syllabus reflects the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation requirements for first aid at work.
Understanding of the legislation behind first aid at work
Understanding what is first and the main roles of First Aider (including protection against infection)
Incident management and mechanism of injury
Consent for treatment
Primary and Secondary surveys
Types of casualties and how to deal with the casualty – includes: responsive; unresponsive and breathing – Airway management, vomiting and recovery position; and unresponsive and non- breathing – CPR

Respiratory System and the conditions that affect this system and treatments

  • Choking

Circulatory System and the conditions that affect this system and treatments

  • Angina, Heart Attack and Cardiac arrest and use of AED equipment
  • Severe bleeding and shock
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Types of wounds and injuries
  • Minor bleeds
  • Insect bites and stings
  • Medical conditions and treatments
  • Epilepsy and seizures – including Absence and Tonic-Clonic
