Existing Paediatric first aiders who work with children within the workplace, and who requires a Paediatric First Aid certification to comply with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation and meets childcare registration requirements.

What you'll learn

Course objective:

To provide delegates through a combination of theory illustrated with examples, interactive role play/practical, condition, symptoms, and treatment quiz sessions with updates of legislation, refreshment of knowledge, skills and confidence of first aid, the first aider role and responsibilities, knowing your equipment, how to identify first
aid conditions with casualty(ies) treatment, when to call emergency services or transfer casualty(ies) to medical centres, and how to report the first aid incident.

Understanding of the legislation behind first aid
Understanding what is first and the main roles of First Aider
Incident management and mechanism of injury
Consent for treatment
Moving a casualty and the recognised treatment positions
Primary and Secondary surveys
Types of casualties and how to deal with the casualty – includes: responsive; unresponsive and breathing – Airway management, vomiting and recovery position; and unresponsive and non-breathing – CPR

Respiratory System and the conditions that affect this system and treatments

  • Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis & Allergic Reaction
  • Choking

Circulatory System and the conditions that affect this system and treatments

  • Cardiac arrest and use of AED equipment on infant and child
  • Severe bleeding and shock
  • Burns and scalds – including minor, chemical, and electrical/electric shock
  • Extreme body temperatures

Types of wounds and injuries

  • Head injury
  • Nose bleeds
  • Eye injury and foreign objects in eyes
  • Ear injury and foreign objects in ears
  • Splinters
  • Animal, human and insect bites
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Sprains and Strains
  • Spinal injuries

Medical conditions and treatments
• Diabetic emergency
• Epilepsy and seizures – including Absence, Tonic-Clonic and Febrile Convulsions
